Three little known charities that are doing incredible things for the world
Knox Blocks Foundation
In the US alone, 2,000 parents will go to pick up their precious baby, only to discover their child has passed away from SIDS. This heartbreaking syndrome has no known cause, and while there are steps you can take to reduce the risk of SIDS, it can happen to any baby under the age of one.
Knox was a 3.5 month old baby who passed away due to SIDS, devastating his loving parents. Although their son is gone forever, something good came out of it—a foundation to purchase Owlet heart monitors for families that can't afford it. These monitors use pulse oximetry to monitor healthy newborns, and sets off an alarm if their oxygen or heart rate fall out of normal perameters, potentially saving their lives.
The Little Market
The Little Market is an independent nonprofit, charitable organization that gives women in impoverished countries access to an online market. When you visit the Little Market, you have access to the same goods these women would take to local markets in an effort to sell to tourists. These goods help them earn money to support their families, and to break the cycle of poverty.
Unfortunately, tourism fluctuates depending on season, and not everyone will buy beautiful artisanal products from these women, making earning a living tough. With the Little Market, their products are available around the globe, making it easier for them to get sales any time of year.
This organization is special for another reason—none of the money earned leaves the Little Market. It all goes back to the families who are selling, and any additional funds are used to help more families enter the market.
Pencils of Promise
This charity started with a life changing interaction between Adam, the founder, and a child in India. The boy ran up to him to beg, and Adam asked him, “What do you want most in the world?” Without hesitating, the boy answered with what must have seemed like a very odd respose. A pencil.
Adam gave the boy the pencil in his backpack, and watched the boy transform with joy.
Right now, up to 75% of children in developing countries are unable to read a single word, even after being in school for many years. This is due to a number of reasons, but lack of proper school supplies, proper schools, and resources for teachers are a big part of it.
Pencils of Promise helps to give teachers the resources they need to teach. This includes building schools, supplying them with the tools they need to be successful, and offering the teachers the support they need
100% of all donations directly fund the schools, making your donations count.
These 3 charities are working hard to save lives, impact communities, and change the world. You can help by giving them the support they need in order to continue transforming the planet into a better place for everyone.
