Need motivation to run? Sign up for a digital race!

Let's face it, no matter how much you enjoy running, sometimes putting in those miles gets a little—well—dull. If you need motivation to get off the couch, signing up for a race is the perfect way, but what if there's no race on a day you can go?

Not everyone has weekends off for a race, and even if you do, they're not always available in your area. What can you do if the nearest race is half a state away and you just don't want to drive that far? Sign up for a digital race instead!

Digital racing has gotten attention recently because it provides many of the same benefits as a race, including the competitive spirit of running against others, beating a time or distance, and even great swag like shirts and medals.

How it works is simple, you sign up using what ever app the race is running on, such as runkeeper or the Adidas App, and track your speed and distance using the app. When you fulfill the requirements of the race,.

Just like in a real life race, you may also have to pay an entry fee if there is a prize involved. Run your race when you have time, where you have time, and compare yourself to others. No matter where you're running or why, you'll get some great motivation and yes, maybe even a prize or two.

Some races don't give away prizes, but donate to charity based on your participation. Adidas holds “Run for the Oceans” where they donate $1 for every kilometer you run during the drive.

Digital racing is a great way to stay fit and healthy, while also enjoying a certain amount of healthy competition. If you can't make it to a local race, give digital racing a try. You may be surprised how much you enjoy it.
