The placebo effect shows up in pets too

We have all heard about the placebo effect in humans. A person suffering a headache, for example, is given a sugar pill by the doctor, but told that the pill is the most effective pain medication available. Of course, the headache is eliminated despite no actual medication being administered. In veterinary medicine, we haven’t had to worry too much about this effect, well, unless you are Dr. Doolittle and able to effectively speak with your patients to tell them the sugar pill is truly a real medication?

Do we need to worry about the placebo effect in our patients? Study data says that the answer is YES.
