Pregnancy prevention post Roe vs. Wade

For women, pregnancy prevention is more important now than ever. If you are not looking to start a family now and want to focus on your career, you need to take precautions. For the last 50 years, women have been protected by Roe vs. Wade, but now our rights are being challenged. Topics surrounding pregnancy and abortion have always been slightly controversial. However, now that Roe vs. Wade has been overturned, it is no longer a matter of discussion or debate. This same controversy has now grown to pose a greater threat to women's health care in the United States.

Roe vs. Wade OVERTURNED

Roe vs. Wade sprung to life in 1970 when an unnamed woman challenged the state of Texas for illegalizing abortion. She argued that it violated several of her constitutional rights by impeding her right to privacy and bodily autonomy. It was settled that with the support of the 14th amendment, women had the right to abortion. As long as it was within a reasonable timeframe, women had every right to choose to terminate their pregnancy.

That was, until midway through 2022, when the Supreme Court overruled the historical Roe vs. Wade. As of June 24th, 2022, women's right to choose abortion is no longer protected by the constitution of the United States. This has led many states, like Texas, to quickly illegalize abortion for women once again.

Pregnancy Prevention

With women’s rights seemingly hanging in the balance, women need to find ways to fight for their health and bodily autonomy. Pregnancy prevention is an incredible way for women to take back control. Pregnancy prevention means being educated on your contraception options and safe sexual habits. It means using backup protection like condoms, and may even mean choosing to abstain from sex even when you want to do it.

Without constitutional protection, women's health is severely at risk. In some cases, women may even lose their lives as a result of new laws protecting fetuses over the women carrying them. One Texas bill introduced goes so far as to deny tax breaks to businesses that assist in paying for out-of-state care for employees. This bill is solely to prevent women from potentially leaving the state for an abortion.
