Tips for packing light when on holiday

Have you ever dreamed of being surprised by your significant other for a surprise weekend getaway? You hurry to pack your things, and then both of you sail away to your exciting destination with just a few things thrown into a suitcase.

As fun as that dream is, most of us spend an excessive amount of time packing for even short weekend trips. Although you may never be as spontaneous as your dreams, learning how to pack light is a big advantage. Here’s how to do it.

Use Packing Cubes

Packing Cubes are handy little bags that squeeze out all the air that typically comes along with even the most nicely folded clothing. They reduce how much space your clothing takes up, leaving room for other objects in the same suitcase, but more importantly it limits how much clothing you take.

If you only pack enough clothes to fit in those cubes, you’ll be less likely to pack an enormous amount of clothing you don’t need.

Buy toiletries when you arrive

Toiletries are messy. They have weird limits. They can explode all over your clothing and leave you with a terrible mess. Why fuss about something so small? Instead simply purchase your toiletries while you are there, as almost every location you visit for a quick getaway is going to have them.

Keep to a list

Make a list of essential items for travel, and take only those items. It may be tempting to throw this item or that in as you go, but if you stick to the list you’ll have a lovely, light suitcase that’s easy to whisk through customs or toss in the back of your car.

There’s something freeing about packing light and just enjoying the moment. With these tips in mind, you’ll be perfectly ready for your next adventure.
