How to find yourself in the middle of a pandemic

With life pretty much on hold thanks to Covid-19, the dangerous disease that has swept around the world in a global pandemic, it can be hard to think about things like where your life is headed. Yet now is perhaps the best time to explore who you are as a person, and what you want to do with the life you were given. Here are just a few of the things you can do to learn more about yourself during lockdown.

Discover new skills, perfect old ones

As the bread baking craze (and now canning and other self sufficient activities) has shown, there are many hidden skills inside all of us waiting to come to light. Although baking might not be your thing, now is a great time to dust off that old guitar, or pick up the half finished manuscript you have laying around, and just finish it.

Trying new things and perfecting old ones is a great way to spend lock down, and help you to learn how to enjoy the company of yourself—the most important person in your life.

Learn what self care routine works for you

Our bodies are not designed to handle this much stress. Many of us were already running on self care fumes before the pandemic began, but now on top of raising children, getting them to school or daycare on time, and rushing to work we have all new worries to stress us. If you go to work will you catch Covid-19 and die? If you have kids is there even a place to send them so you can work? If you do will they get sick and die?

The stress is unbelievable, and not everyone has a choice in the matter. Not everyone can work from home, and those who choose not to work for safety must face the specters of rent and bills. No one has been spared the incredible stress of the pandemic.

Regardless of what your unique position is in this whole mess however, one thing is certain, you need to keep up on self care.

A self care routine can be a hike alone in the forest, a few minutes of meditation (while hiding in the bathroom from the kids) or a bubble bath with candles, bubbles, and a great book.

It is more important than ever to practice good self care, and to take those few minutes for yourself so that you can cope with the rest of the unbelievable stress out there. It's also important to try to find help for your stress, including taking what ever actions you need in order to stay safe.

The novel coronavirus has changed our lives in every possible way. If you find yourself struggling to deal with the stress and problems related to it, we recommend you take steps to pay attention to both your body and your mental health, and do what ever it takes to stay safe during these difficult times.
