Cheer up with color therapy

As human beings, we have developed a keen sense of vision. Our vision is easily one of our best senses, and we depend on it to the exclusion of many of our other senses. Because of this, it shouldn't come as a big surprise to learn that color can have a huge impact on our mood. After all, when we say we're depressed we often call it, “Feeling blue.” When we are angry, we often say something like,“Seeing red.”

Color isn't just a way of describing our moods however, by surrounding ourselves with specific colors we can change how we feel. Here are a couple of colors you can use to help cheer yourself up if you're feeling down.

Green

Green is one of the best colors for mood boosting. When we go out in nature, green is usually the majority of the color we see. Green is the color of growth, healing, and one of the safest colors to use for color therapy.

Orange

Orange represents adventure, and the bright warm color can be very uplifting. Orange can make you feel more energized, and also more creative. It's a wonderful color to boost mood, but should be used with caution—orange can also represent danger to us, since orange is used as a caution in many places.

Yellow

Yellow is a very happy color. This color can raise self esteem in those who see it, and make people who are feeling discontent happier. The shade of yellow is important however. A yellow that is too bright can promote dread and other unpleasant emotions. Instead go for a darker, more natural yellow.

Color can have a big impact on your mood and surroundings. If you're looking for a way to boost mood in the office or home, try moving away from white walls toward colored ones, or simply use different colored lights at home to help give you the powerful benefits of color therapy.
