Study finds 'dad bods' are more attractive to women
Not all of us have the time or the willpower to spend half our life in the gym, working on our physique. If your abs aren't chiseled and the underside of your arms is a bit soggy, no need to panic. A recent study commissioned by Planet Fitness has found that 65% of those surveyed found a dad bod more attractive than a six pack. That's up 10% from the last time the survey was taken, indicating that the popularity of the dad bod has only risen with time.
The study also looked at the mental health of the people in the survey, and found that men with dad bods were happier over all, and 78% thought a dad bod was a sign of greater confidence. After all, if you're still willing to take your shirt off beach side without the perfect six pack, that probably means your comfortable with your body—a sign of confidence women love.
Over 28 million men have dad bods. Dad bods are characterized as somewhere between a beer belly and a six pack, and aren't used to mean someone doesn't take care of their bodies at all. Instead it simply means a person who still eats healthy and stays active, but doesn't go out of their way to maintain a perfect body.
This could be for a lot of reasons, from not wanting the pressure of keeping their own bodies in picture perfect shape, to body acceptance becoming normalized. Either way, it's good news for men who don't want to worship dumbbells for hours every day. If your mid section is a little soggy, don't worry about how the ladies will view you. It just means you are one of 28 million guys out there rocking a dad bod.
