Do hats make you go bald?
Does wearing a hat make you bald? There is a short answer to that and a longer caveat. The short answer is no, wearing a hat does not cause baldness. The most likely culprit for it is male pattern baldness, which is a hormonal reaction that causes hair follicles to have difficulties.
Wearing a hat can still cause problems, depending on the type of hat, the cleanliness of it, and your hair and how long you wear it. A tight hat is more likely to irritate the scalp. Hats with sweatbands can absorb a lot of sweat and cause irritation also.
On the other hand, there are good things about wearing hats. Hats or head covers can help provide insulation between your head and the elements. When it is very hot, hats keep the body cool. When it is cold out, hats keep the body warm. While they don’t necessarily cause or prevent baldness, wearing a hat when going outside with wet hair can protect your hair from weakening and breaking, which is a positive in our book.
