It's Officially Mint Julep Season
The first Saturday in May is the running of the Kentucky Derby- and this kicks off Mint Julep season. Make this classic southern drink using this simple recipe from “Retro Cocktails.”
1 teaspoon sugar
1 tablespoon water
1 1/2 parts bourbon
1 small bunch of fresh mint leaves
Place the sugar and mint in a tall glass and bruise the leaves with a muddler. A muddler is a short wooden baton. If you don’t have a muddler, you can use a large spoon. Do this until you make a paste. Add the water and continue mixing. Add crushed ice to the glass and then add the bourbon. Top with a straw and more mint leaves for the perfect look.
