They say it takes a village to raise a child, and to an extent that’s true.

But what does it take to raise a veterinarian?

For Dr. Zonram Liao, there was one other key factor that influenced his choice to become a veterinarian…his community.

Now, as the CEO and Co-Founder of Wellnergy Pets, Dr. Zonram (or “Dr. Z” as his patients like to call him!) is giving back to that very same Southern California community that helped raise him as a youngster all those years ago.

Vet Candy is delighted to introduce Dr. Liao, Ross University School of Veterinary Medicine graduate turned full-time vet and entrepreneur. Today, we share with our readers Dr. Liao’s innovative business idea and look at the way Wellnergy Pets is improving the well-being and happiness of pets everywhere.

When Disaster Struck in March 2020, Dr. Z Got Creative

Where were you in March 2020?

For millions of people (and pets) around the globe, life changed when Covid-19 hit. Before the pandemic, it was easy to book an appointment with a veterinarian. But during the scariest days of the virus outbreak, suddenly pet owners had to wait weeks before getting the veterinary care their beloved fur babies needed.

Unable to see as many patients as he normally would, Dr. Zonram knew something had to be done.

Thus, Wellnergy Pets was born!

Dr. Liao explains, “I believe that pet care, at its core, starts with a proactive approach at home with pet owners. My goal is to improve the lives of people and their pets by providing the best at-home pet care in the form of high-quality pet products and supplements.”

From managing a pet’s chronic disease to helping clients avoid unnecessary trips to the vet, Wellnergy offers safe and effective solutions. 

Improving the Lives of Pets, Wherever “Home” Is

His community sure appreciated the effort.

Yet for this veterinarian, giving back was a natural reaction.

Dr. Liao refers to himself as an Asian American “parachute kid.” Since his parents were working overseas in Taiwan, Zonram’s formative years occurred in the greater Los Angeles area, where he was lucky enough to form strong bonds and relationships within the local community.

As a veterinarian, Dr. Liao intentionally returned back home to his LA roots where he knew he could have a hugely positive impact on pets. Since then, Wellnergy Pets products have been distributed across the US. In fact, they are headed to retail at Lowe's Home Improvement stores.

Be Different from Everyone Else

Just like Tony Stark (one of his fictional idols) Dr. Zonram Liao is committed to working hard and mastering his craft. He is devoted to being the best veterinarian he can be. Even though his professional journey was full of twists and turns, he pushed through and never gave up.

Dr. Zonram’s advice for his younger self?

“Don't be lazy. Get out there, grind, and be different from everyone else.”
