First ectopic hepatic tissue in a Guinea Pig

Ectopic hepatic tissue is a very rare developmental abnormality seen in humans and some animal species as well, most recently the Guinea Pig. It was found to be implanted in the gallbladder. Thea healthy guinea pig showed no symptoms and macroscopic findings showed no abnormalities. Hematological differences were seen, as well as some electrolyte disturbances. Histopathological examination showed presence of hepatocytes and hepatic cords, but no presence of portal triads, located within the wall of the gallbladder. The Guinea Pig did not show signs of a foreign body reaction.
