Commercial senior cat foods similar to adult formulations

A descriptive study was performed to evaluate thirty-one senior, and fifty-nine adult commercial non-therapeutic cat food products. Various parameters were measured including but not limited too crude protein, crude fiber and crude fat. The results of this analysis found that commercial cat foods are highly variable across the market in every category. The only significant difference in senior cat food was an increase in crude fiber, while other parameters were comparable to adult formulations. Veterinarians should try to recommend a diet specific to an individual and avoid broad suggestions as a high variability in diets was seen.
