Five reasons the government shutdown matters to our profession

An estimated 800,000 federal workers have been temporarily laid off or are working without pay. With an estimated 68% of the public, owning at least one pet, it doesn’t take long to see the potential ripple effect to veterinary practices across the Country.

Innovation and Technology. Agencies such as the National Science Foundation are unable to support grant award recipients during the shutdown, as in, thousands of dollars will not be awarded on time, Science is officially stalled.

Student Loans are due but are not being paid.

Tax Season? Don’t worry, the IRS will still take your tax payment on time, it’s just unclear when you’ll get your refund.

Food Safety. FDA recalled workers to perform high-risk food inspections. What’s the catch? They aren’t getting paid.
