WOAH Launches New Website to Foster Global Dialogue on Animal Health
The World Organisation for Animal Health (WOAH), formerly known as the OIE, has launched a new website, The Animal Echo, designed to drive global conversations on animal health, animal welfare, and veterinary issues. The platform, which debuted on International Education Day, combines scientific articles and expert blog posts from across the fields of animal, public, and environmental health.
The Animal Echo serves as a hub for knowledge exchange, featuring thought leadership on key topics in the animal health sector. The site encourages the sharing of insights and experiences from global experts while also amplifying the voices of those within WOAH. Its goal is to deepen understanding of critical issues and promote global collaboration on animal welfare and health.
The site’s inaugural articles address pressing themes such as gender in the veterinary profession, animal health, and biosecurity. One notable article, co-authored by Dr. Neil Vezeau, a food safety veterinarian, and Sonia Fèvre of WOAH in Nairobi, highlights the growing presence of women in the veterinary field. In 30 countries across the Americas, Europe, and Australasia, women now make up the majority of veterinarians, with Finland leading at an impressive 93%.
“The launch of The Animal Echo underscores the importance of cross-sector knowledge sharing to tackle global challenges,” WOAH stated in its announcement. “By fostering global dialogue, the platform reinforces the message that animal health is everyone’s health, paving the way for a more sustainable future for all.”
This new resource promises to be an invaluable tool in shaping the future of animal health and welfare discussions worldwide.
