From ER Vet to Best-Selling Author: Dr. Lynsey Rinelli's Heartwarming Book on Pet Loss Will Make You Tear Up!

Dr. Lynsey Rinelli is no ordinary veterinarian. A dedicated emergency vet, single mom, and passionate advocate for the human-animal bond, she has built her career on helping animals and their families through some of the most challenging moments they face. Now, Dr. Rinelli is stepping into a new role as an author with the release of her first children’s book, Goodbye For Now.  A heartfelt exploration of pet loss and grief aimed at helping families navigate the difficult topic of euthanasia.

From Emergency Rooms to Emotional Journeys

Dr. Rinelli’s journey began long before she ever thought of writing a book. After earning her Bachelor of Science in Biology and Psychology from Wagner College, she continued her studies at Ross University School of Veterinary Medicine. Her early career included working with the Emergency and Critical Care Team at Louisiana State University and aiding a Surgical/Anesthesia team in Central Jersey. Her passion for emergency medicine eventually led her to Mount Laurel Animal Hospital in 2017, where she was a valued member in the ER for exotic and behavior medicine. She is currently teaching interns at Veterinary Emergency Group as well as lead Dr. of the first North Jersey Exotics team.

But it’s her experiences in the emergency room that truly shaped the story behind Goodbye For Now. Over the years, Dr. Rinelli has been a witness to the profound connection between pets and their owners, especially during those final, heart-wrenching moments. This deeply personal insight fueled her desire to create a resource that could guide families, particularly children of all ages, through the complex emotions of pet loss.

"As a veterinarian, I've witnessed the powerful connection between humans and their pets, and I wanted to create something that would help families, especially children, navigate the complex emotions that come with saying goodbye," Dr. Rinelli explained.

A Book with Heart and Purpose

Goodbye For Now is not just a children’s book—it's a beautiful celebration of the bond we share with our pets. Illustrated with care and available in English, Spanish and Portuguese. The book aims to provide comfort and understanding for families experiencing loss. Through thoughtful storytelling and delicate illustrations, Dr. Rinelli tackles the often-taboo subject of euthanasia, offering a message of eternal love and understanding for young readers.

A Veterinarian, Athlete, and Adventurer

When Dr. Rinelli isn't working in the emergency room or writing books, she leads an adventurous life. Whether she's playing basketball, lifting weights at the gym, or embarking on meaningful journeys—like supporting mushers in Alaska's Willow 300 race and creating her own LLC in 2024—Dr. Rinelli embodies passion and dedication in everything she does.

Her veterinary career has taken her across the globe, including travel to Costa Rica through VIDA, where she worked to improve animal welfare in underserved communities. But perhaps her greatest joy outside of work is spending time with her daughter, Gracelyn, who inspires her every day.

A Message of Resilience and Purpose

Dr. Rinelli’s story is one of perseverance and passion, qualities that have guided her through both her veterinary career and personal life. Reflecting on the advice that has shaped her journey, she emphasizes the importance of resilience: "Always push through tough challenges. The road to success involves failure, and it is one of the best ways we learn to grow."

As someone who has witnessed the highs and lows of veterinary medicine, Dr. Rinelli is a strong advocate for finding purpose in life, something she believes is crucial for personal and professional fulfillment. For her, that purpose is clear: building a life for her daughter that she can be proud of and ensuring that her work—whether as a vet or an author—makes a lasting impact on the lives of others.

In the next five years, Dr. Rinelli envisions a life where she balances her veterinary work with providing more time for her family, and possibly even expanding her role as an author. Whatever the future holds, one thing is certain: Dr. Lyndsey Rinelli will continue to inspire and touch the lives of both humans and animals through her compassion, dedication, and love.
