Global Symposium to Focus on the Gut Microbiome-Organ Connection for Improved Pet Health

Hill's Pet Nutrition has announced that the 2024 Hill’s Global Symposium will focus on the connection between the gut microbiome and organ health, presenting one of the largest global educational opportunities for veterinary professionals. This year’s theme, "Nourish the Gut, Nurture the Future," builds on Hill’s decade-long research into microbiome health, offering a platform for top experts to share insights on how the gut microbiome plays a pivotal role in advancing pet health care. The event will provide practical applications to enhance clinical decision-making and improve overall pet health.

The symposium will feature over 17 experts who will explore the impact of the gut microbiome.

Registration is open for the virtual Hill’s Global Symposium, which will be livestreamed on October 24-25 through Hill’s Veterinary Academy. Attendees can access the event in English or Spanish, with on-demand viewing available after the live sessions.

During the symposium, attendees will hear from a diverse group of experts, including Hill’s own scientists, discussing the gut's role as a vital organ influencing overall health in cats and dogs. Topics will cover the microbiome’s effects on the kidneys, brain, and skin, with notable presentations from:

  • Dr. Rob Knight, Director of the Center for Microbiome Innovation at the University of California San Diego, discussing how the gut microbiome can help modify disease and maintain health in pets.

  • Dr. Curtis Huttenhower, from the Harvard T.H. Chan School of Public Health, exploring the future of health through the One Health Microbiome Resource.

"The microbiome is a hot topic in human health, and Hill’s Pet Nutrition is excited to bring this emerging science to the forefront for veterinary professionals," said Dr. Karen Shenoy, US Chief Veterinary Officer at Hill’s Pet Nutrition. "This year, we’re expanding our reach with bilingual livestreams in English and Spanish, and I’m thrilled to be hosting the English stream. Our speakers will make guest appearances throughout, adding extra value and making the virtual experience both engaging and informative."
