A new experimental drug available at Quakertown Veterinary Clinic is bringing hope to dog owners who want their furry friends to live longer, healthier lives, according to a report by Stephanie Stahl and Nate Sylves for CBS News Philadelphia.

The pill, developed by biotech company Loyal, is designed to slow the aging process in dogs, potentially giving owners more time with their beloved pets.

"That’s every dog owner’s dream," said Dr. Sam Geller of Quakertown Veterinary Clinic.

The Bucks County clinic is currently conducting a clinical trial for the drug, with Dr. Geller having already enrolled around 50 dogs. The clinic is still accepting more participants to test the daily pill.

"It may help prevent insulin resistance," Geller explained. "It aids in managing body fats and controls lipids in the bloodstream."

In the study, half of the dogs are receiving the experimental drug, while the other half are on a placebo.

"The FDA requires proof that your drug is more effective than a placebo," Geller noted.

The study aims to include over 1,000 dogs and will span four years. The research is expected to reveal whether the pill can extend a dog’s life by months or even years.
