Applications Open for Georgia's Veterinary Education Loan Repayment Program

The Georgia Veterinary Education Loan Repayment Program (GVELRP) is now accepting applications for its 2025 cycle, offering a valuable opportunity for veterinarians committed to serving in rural areas of the state. This program provides student loan repayment for veterinarians who practice or intend to practice in counties with populations of 35,000 or less, specifically focusing on providing care to food animals.

Application Details:

  • Application Period: The window for applications is open from August 1, 2024, through September 30, 2024.

  • Eligibility Requirements:

    • Must be a U.S. citizen or have lawful presence in the country.

    • Must reside in Georgia.

    • Must be either a practicing veterinarian or a veterinary student in the final year of study.

    • Applicants must practice or intend to practice in Board-approved rural counties with populations of 35,000 or less. Previous service in these areas is not considered in the application process.

  1. Download the Application and Reference Forms: These forms are available on the Georgia Department of Agriculture’s website.

  2. Complete and Sign the Application: Ensure all required information is provided.

  3. Obtain References: Have three reference forms completed and signed, with at least one reference from a DVM/VMD and one from a current or former employer. If you have no employment history, a reference from a professor involved in your veterinary degree program is acceptable.

  4. Submit Your Application: Email the completed application and all reference forms together to statevetedboard@agr.georgia.gov.
