Zoo Atlanta Unveils the Rollins Animal Health Center, Setting New Standards in Animal Care

Zoo Atlanta has proudly unveiled its newest addition, the state-of-the-art Rollins Animal Health Center, a 17,000-square-foot facility that promises to redefine standards in zoo animal medicine, research, and academic collaboration.

Named in honor of Gary W. Rollins, whose generous $3 million donation made the center possible, this cutting-edge facility is designed to elevate the quality of care provided to the zoo’s animal residents. Rollins has a long-standing history of support for Zoo Atlanta, and his contribution has helped create a facility that reflects a new era in zoo veterinary excellence.

The Rollins Animal Health Center is equipped with an advanced laboratory, pharmacy, radiology services, treatment areas, and surgical suites, all specially designed to meet the needs of Zoo Atlanta’s diverse species. In addition, the center is prepared for visiting professionals and students, with a second-floor area featuring dorm rooms, restrooms, and laboratory workspace. This setup supports the veterinary team during extended hours and facilitates collaboration with students and colleagues from other institutions.

With an investment of $22 million, this facility represents a new phase of transformation for Zoo Atlanta. Raymond B. King, President and CEO of Zoo Atlanta, shared his excitement about the new center, stating, “The Rollins Animal Health Center is Zoo Atlanta’s newest phase of transformation. We are thrilled to see our world-class Veterinary Team in a facility that allows them to fully inhabit their reputation for excellence in zoo animal medicine.”

According to King, the facility is more than just a building; it’s an investment in the future of veterinary medicine and a testament to the zoo’s commitment to animal welfare. “These facilities not only exemplify the team’s expertise and commitment, but they also build the team’s capacity as they provide outstanding, skilled care for the hundreds of animals who call Zoo Atlanta home. Additionally, the Veterinary Team now has a broader ability than ever before to share and exchange knowledge with other institutions and to benefit students pursuing veterinary careers,” he said.

Zoo Atlanta's Rollins Animal Health Center is now poised to be a leader in zoo animal care, education, and research, creating new opportunities for veterinary collaboration and advancement while supporting the well-being of its incredible animal residents.
