Game-Changing Partnership: Zoetis and Danone Team Up to Revolutionize Sustainable Dairy Farming Through Genetics

Zoetis and Danone have announced a strategic partnership aimed at advancing sustainability in dairy farming through genetic innovation. By combining Danone's commitment to environmental sustainability with Zoetis' expertise in animal genetics, the collaboration seeks to enhance the dairy industry’s approach to breeding healthier, more resilient cows.

This initiative will enable Danone to leverage Zoetis' advanced genetic technologies globally, focusing on integrating sustainability into dairy genetics and selection. The partnership emphasizes improving animal well-being, reducing the environmental impact of dairy farming, and promoting long-term resilience.

“Collaborative partnerships allow us to harmonize genetic innovation with sustainable practices. Through our partnership with Danone, we intend to leverage our respective expertise to set new benchmarks for healthier herds that contribute to a sustainable future for the dairy industry,” said Wafaa Mamilli, EVP, Chief Digital & Technology Officer at Zoetis.

Zoetis’ genetic testing solutions offer the ability to predict an animal’s susceptibility to diseases and its potential to stay healthy and productive over its lifetime. This aligns with Danone’s goal to support dairy production that prioritizes environmental resilience. Jean-Yves Krummenacher, Chief Procurement Officer at Danone, highlighted that genomic testing is an essential tool for incorporating sustainability into the dairy value chain.

The collaboration builds on Zoetis’ role as a member of Danone’s global Partner for Growth program, where Zoetis provides genetic testing for dairy farms using the Dairy Wellness Profit Index® (DWP$®) from CLARIFIDE® Plus. This multi-trait animal ranking tool allows farmers to make informed breeding decisions that prioritize cow wellness, longevity, and milk quality, ultimately contributing to greater sustainability and profitability.

By connecting genetic improvements with environmental and operational outcomes, Zoetis aims to help dairy producers reduce methane emissions, improve farm profitability, and enhance animal welfare. The partnership is expected to positively impact cow longevity, farm resilience, and consumer demand for sustainably sourced dairy products.
