In the dynamic world of animal health, Dr. Karl C. Maritato is a standout. Not just for his surgical prowess, but for his passion for passing on his knowledge to the next wave of veterinarians. A Board-certified Veterinary Surgeon with MedVet Cincinnati since 2010, Dr. Maritato blends academic excellence with a heartfelt commitment to animal care.

Dr. Maritato's academic journey is nothing short of impressive. He boasts two Bachelor of Science degrees from the University of Florida and a Doctor of Veterinary Medicine degree from Ross University, where he graduated top of his class with highest honors. His remarkable intellect earned him several prestigious awards, setting the stage for a career marked by innovation and compassionate care.

After specialized training and residency in small animal surgery, Dr. Maritato became a pioneer in his field, introducing groundbreaking surgical techniques to Cincinnati. From performing the city's first cement-less canine total hip replacement to leading the charge in minimally invasive procedures, his expertise has mended thousands of ruptured ACLs in dogs and established a full-service surgery department at MedVet Dayton. Not only that, he is often called to the Cincinnati Zoo to help with surgical procedure on exotic animals, literally lions, tigers, and bears!

Dr. Maritato’s scholarly contributions are extensive. As a co-editor of a textbook on locking implant technology and an issue of Veterinary Clinics of North America, his insights have enriched veterinary literature. His articles have graced numerous respected journals, showcasing his innovative approach to surgery.

But Dr. Maritato's role extends beyond surgery. He's a mentor and educator, sharing his wisdom at veterinary conferences in the U.S. and Europe, and through media appearances. He is also the program director for both the surgery residency and surgery internship for MedVet Cincinnati.  His commitment to education reflects his belief that veterinary medicine is more than a job—it's a vocation.

Balancing his demanding career, Dr. Maritato also dedicates time to learning Italian. This pursuit not only connects him to his heritage but also mirrors his approach to life: always learning, always growing.
