Dr. Michelle Lee's bold and beautiful life

Devoted.

That is the word that best sums up Dr. Michelle Lee.

In fact, it’s even the name of her practice: Devotion Veterinary Care!

From work colleagues to the animal patients she sees, Dr. Michelle Lee has certainly earned a reputation for being one of the most devoted veterinarians out there. Now, as the new owner of an independent, small animal general practice in Pine Brook, NJ, she is focused on providing exceptional and relationship-forward care to all who need her…both two and four-legged.

Vet Candy is delighted to have had the opportunity to speak with Dr. Lee and learn about how she is accomplishing her life’s mission, helping pets and the humans who love them.

Introducing, the amazing Dr. Michelle Lee!

Finding a Reason to Wake Up Every Day

Integrity. Compassion. Resilience.

These are the three qualities that Michelle admires most. Of course, she embodies many of the same traits. At just 14 years old, Dr. Lee knew deep down in her heart that being a veterinarian was the job she was meant to do.

Michelle explains, “Finding a purpose guides every decision you make in life. It gives you a reason to wake up every day. It makes you focus on what is important.”

Recognizing this as a young teenager, Dr. Lee went on to earn her Bachelor of Science in Animal and Poultry Sciences from Virginia Tech in 2000 and her Doctor of Veterinary Medicine from Cummings School of Veterinary Medicine at Tufts University later in 2004. Upon graduation, she was accepted to a rotating surgical/medical internship at Oradell Animal Hospital.

Sixteen years later, Dr. Michelle found another reason to jump excitedly out of bed each morning – business ownership!

Devotion Veterinary Care was born.

Devotion Veterinary Care is All About Relationships

As her own boss, Dr. Michelle is also acutely aware of the problems facing veterinary medicine today.

When asked what the biggest issue is, she answered, “Losing connection between clients and staff and between staff and their leadership.”

Luckily, Lee operates a practice dedicated to positive relationships. What she loves most about general practice are the bonds she forms with owners and their pets over their lifetimes. And her devotion doesn’t stop there. Even the name “Devotion Veterinary Care” has ties to her unwavering dedication to helping others.

Dr. Michelle recalls:

“I chose the name after coming home from work one night and after writing a couple of sympathy cards to clients. I often write of an owner’s devotion to their pets in condolence cards and realized that word really fits the way I live and the way I practice. I am very devoted to the people and causes I care about, and I am devoted to my clients and patients just as much.”

The name stuck.

Nowadays, Dr. Michelle is getting used to the freedom of owning a business.

When not helping people and their pets, she can be found meditating, hiking, volunteering with Rural Area Veterinary Services, hanging out with her husband Daniel, or “beagle-snuggling” her two adorable dogs, Kenny and Dotty.

Vet Candy is so excited to watch Dr. Michelle Lee’s devotion blossom as her new practice grows!
