Renal changes and their relationship to vector-linked infections in Bernese dogs
Bernese mountain dogs (BMD) have been reported with a high risk of glomerulonephritis along with a high prevalence of Ab against B burgdorferi. The objective of this study was to check the plurality of lab abnormalities that are going to suggest kidney disorders in healthy dogs compared to the control population and to explore any association of Ab occurrence against Anaplasma, Ehrlichia.Canis, and B.burgdorferi with the antigen of Dirofilaria immits. 197 Bernese mountain dogs along with 57 dogs of the control group were used in the study.
Evidence of kidney infections by the laboratory was interpreted based onproteinuria, azotemia, andurine creatinine level > 0.5. ELISA was used to detect antibodies against Anaplasma, E canis, B burgdorferi, and D immitis antigens.
The fact of kidney disorder was considerably more widespread in BMDs(017.8%) thanthe control group dogs (1.8%).Ab proportion for Bb and A.pahgocytophilum was reasonably elevated in Bernese Mountain dogs. However, no association was identified between suchfindings.Hence it was concluded that Bernese Mountain dogs are generally more affected with kidney disorders.
They also have an increased prevalence of Ab against pathogens being conveyed by ticks than dogs of the control group.
