Risk for the development of kidney disease due to exposure of anaplasma and B.burgdorferi spp
B. burgdorferi is responsible for the development of multi-faceted Lyme infection. Acute as well as chronic kidney damage could arise due to Lyme disease. Kidney malfunction due to anaplasma is not well known. A cohort survey was conducted to determine whether dogs with anaplasma and B. burgdorferi antibodies had a risk of chronic kidney infection. In this study, patients must have exposure to respective antibodies, or they must be positive for these antibodies in their bodies. Cases were compared based on region, breed, and age. The ratio of CKD risk for cases being exposed toanaplasma and B.burgdorferi was 1.04 and 1.43, respectively. Results suggested that in patients exposed to anaplasma, development of CKD is not a risk. In contrast, in the patients exposed to Borrelia.burgdorferi, an increased risk of CKD development was observed.
