This retrospective case control study looked at predictors of fatal pulmonary hemorrhage in dogs with Leptospirosis using clinical, laboratory and radiographic findings in dogs with and without pulmonary hemorrhage. Dogs with pulmonary hemorrhage were more likely to have respiratory distress, elevated chemistry enzymes, hypoglycemia and thrombocytopenia. Overall, the study found that the presence of respiratory distress was strongly associated with the development of pulmonary hemorrhage, even with no radiographic abnormalities present.
