Therapeutic plasma treatment for immune-mediated hematological diseases in dogs
This retrospective study collected medical records for all dogs diagnosed with immune-mediated hemolytic disease during the years of 2010 – 2019. There were one hundred and forty-six dogs found, with seventeen receiving adjunctive membrane filtration therapeutic plasma exchange (TPE), and one hundred and twenty-nine dogs not treated with TPE. Dogs receiving treatment were more often refractory to initial immunosuppressive therapy than their non-treated counterparts. Overall, it was found that 71% of treated dogs attained complete remission and 82% of treated dogs survived to discharge. The outcome in dogs treated with adjunctive TPE was very similar to dogs that did not receive the treatment.
