Aided enteral sustaining impact on PLE treatment
The outcome of supported enteral sustaining is not well known in dogs being affected by protein-losing enteropathy. A retrospective analysis was done for determining the outcome of the enteral nurturing tube on PLE treatment in dogs being affected from inflammatory protein-losing enteropathy.
Fifty-seven dogs were involved in this study by using specific diagnostic methods. If a dog survives more than six months after diagnosis or death occurs independently of PLE, it would be a positive outcome and vice versa.
After six months of therapy, 39% of dogs were assessed with negative results and sixty-one percent with positive results.
In twenty-one cases, the dogs' tube were placed after five days of biopsy. Among these dogs, 76% were assessed with positive and five percent with negative results.
Dogs treated with tubes and dogs managed with dietary medication alone were linked to positive results.
It was concluded that supported enteral nourishment is linked to positive consequences in dogs being managed with immunosuppressive medication.
