This study aimed to identify clinical associations of gastric mucosal pathologies that might lead to gastric carcinoma in dogs, which usually effect dogs such as Belgian Shepherds. An online surgery was used to recruit dogs with potential clinical signs significant of this gastric pathology, such as the presence of vomiting, for patients to qualify for endoscopic examination. The dogs were then split into two groups of either with or without signs of gastric disease. There were 16 dogs submitted to the group with clinical signs and 11 dogs without clinical signs. The study found that gastric carcinomas are often an inapparent disease, commonly associated with metaplasia or dysplasia of the gastric mucosa. Most commonly, vomiting was a clinical sign suggestive of this disease in Belgian Shepherds, but more research is needed for early clinical diagnosis of this disease.
