Antibiotic resistance E.coli in pet and stray dogs

In this study, E. coli resistance was studied using phenotypic methods isolated from samples collected from pet and stray dogs in Argentina. Fecal samples were collected from rectal swabs from 50 pet dogs and 50 stray dogs, which were then cultured on plates with and without various antibiotics. A total of 197 strains of bacteria were isolated, 95 of which were found to be E. coli, with which they were then exposed to antimicrobial susceptibility test via the Kirby-Bauer disk diffusion method. Overall it was found that samples from stray dogs were more likely to be resistant than samples from pet dogs.
