One step at a time. One foot in front of the other. Don't slip. Head up, eyes straight. Don't fall. Steady...steady...

There's a reason that Johnny Cash song resonates for so many on a multitude of levels. For isn't life just that? Walking various lines on each path we tread, keeping in the middle or straying to one side or the other determines so much both literally and metaphorically.

If you put one toe out of line...consequences.

You've crossed a line...disgust.

That's a line in the sand...limitations.

The navigation of these lines takes us along many roads; some dead ends, others we find ourselves going the wrong way down a one-way street. Yet if we revisit those paths less taken, the wondrous - and sometimes scary - things we discover.

There's the other definition of line - that of the spoken word. If delivered honestly, authentically, and heartfelt it resonates. Should the tone be off, so too is the message.

There are one-liners, lyrics that stick with us, quotes, turns of phrase all of which are embedded in our everyday conversations that give life to our thoughts, dreams, fears...

Ever flirted with a line?

Surely we all have as we've crossed the threshold from childhood to young adulthood, shifting into our prime, and again into that golden age. We play at being older, more mature, and then flip the scenario and act younger than our years.

Then there's the dance between confidence and arrogance. Sultry and tempting, the tango of the psyche. The difference? Confidence is not only heard, but also seen by one's actions. Arrogance too, but it lacks substance, more bravado than bravery.

Walks of faith, adventures of a lifetime, the journey starts with a single step. All of these are ones we're familiar with, but what do they mean?Definitions exist but are written by one individual. There are multiple interpretations and meanings embedded within. How then, can we exclude that from our own walk? Walking the line means one thing to me, and another to you. If I veer left, you go right. I may take a leap, while you stay firmly planted. So, who's to define which of these is correct? The impasse is where so many of us find ourselves these days.

The fundamentals of right and wrong, good and evil are on opposite sides of their lines. Using a moral compass, swimming through the murky waters of misinformation, and taking a stand navigates our walk.

So, how will you walk the line?

Where is your mark in the sand?

Mine is right here, with you. I'm choosing light over darkness, truth over lies, and love over hate. Walk with me, won't you?
