Canine response to COVID-19 in Spain
It is known that Covid-19 is a zoonotic disease, meaning that it infects both humans and animals. This study looked at forty dogs with pulmonary pathologies as well as twenty healthy dogs living in Covid-positive households. All forty sick dogs tested negative for Covid-19, but a majority tested positive for Mycoplasma species. There were five healthy dogs and one sick dog that did have IgG antibodies for Covid-19, but all dogs had negative real-time polymerase chain reaction tests. Overall this study shows that human to canine transmission is highly unlikely based on the tests performed.
