Common management of gastrointestinal disorders in dogs and cats
Currently, endoscopic examinations have gained popularity as a diagnostic for the management of canine and feline gastrointestinal disorders. Endoscopic examination and histopathological examination has been the basis for the chronic disease of the intestinal tract. Some of the most common lesions on endoscopic examinations are edema of the mucous membrane, mucosal thickening, hyperemia, extravasations, and erosion. The use of endoscopy and endoscopically guided biopsy allow us to do a macro-and microscopic assessment of lesions and perform combined examinations.
The histopathological examination of mucosal biopsy specimens from the stomach and intestines allows us to identify a wide range of lesions: hyperplastic, inflammatory, ulcerative, polypoid, and neoplastic lesions. Some of the common tumors diagnosed through gastrointestinal biopsy are lymphoma, carcinomas, adenocarcinomas, and gastrointestinal stromal tumors.
