How to find the perfect roommate

Going to vet school is exciting, and living on campus can provide a unique experience that will shape the rest of your life. Some locations can be quite expensive, which means even if you like to live the solo life, chances are you'll have to have a roommate anyway.

If you know you'll be living with a roommate, or you just want to save some money, here are some awesome tips to find someone you'll enjoy living with.

Make a list of important characteristics

Some colleges make questionnaires aimed at matching people to the correct roommate part of the process, but if they don't it may be helpful to do this yourself. Ask yourself things like how clean do you want your roommate to be? How loud? How do you want them to handle it when you bring a significant other over? Are shampoo and other consumables public use, or do you want them private?

By answering these problems in advance and being clear about expectations, you may save a lot of grief.

 Ask your friends

Having your friend as a roommate can take a lot of the awkwardness out of the situation, but being friends with a person doesn't mean they're someone you can live with. If your friend needs a roommate, make sure you work out cleanliness and other issues beforehand, in case becoming roommates puts a strain on your friendship.
