Over the past twenty years, veterinary medicine has made progress in leaps and bounds on every front, being made possible by new technology and scientific breakthroughs.

These improvements have brought a capacity for a higher standard of care along with greater client awareness. Animals have also been legally granted sentience, allowing veterinarians to promote welfare like never before

Preventing and managing pain has become a fundamental element of patient care quality in veterinary medicine, and pharmacotherapy is the basis of pain management.

This research clarified pain in the veterinary setting as well as exploring the relevance of ethics in a clinical setting for an animal to be free of unnecessary pain. Veterinarians uphold their duty to do everything they can to mitigate pain and suffering beyond what is needed to obtain effective diagnosis and treatments.
