Do horses learn from human behavior?

A study evaluated learning patterns of horses.  Sixty-eight horses were shown how to press a button to open a feed box.  Horses were aged between 3 and 12 years. Sixty-three of the horses passed the test and were assigned to two different groups. One group was taught to press the button by kneeling  and pressing the button and the other group was taught by kneeling and using their head

Significantly more horses used their head to press the button no matter which demonstration they received. The study suggests that horses learn socially through enhancement, using humans to learn where, and which aspect of a mechanism has to be manipulated, and by applying individual trial and error learning to reach their goal.
