Eco-friendly cleaners for your home

Sprucing up your home as you prepare for the upcoming holidays means a lot of deep cleaning. While using heavy duty cleaners may feel necessary in order to get the grime out of hidden corners or caked on spots, there are plenty of powerful but natural tools you can use to get your home clean.

Baking Soda

Baking soda is an effective scrub for your counter tops, showers, and sinks that will help lift stains, remove stuck on debris, and reduce odors in drains. Baking soda is great for anywhere you need an extra boost of cleanliness. All you need to do is use a microfiber cloth that's been moistened to scrub it in, then rinse and wipe away.

You can also use baking soda mixed with hydrogen peroxide as an excellent grout cleaner for a little extra deep cleaning.

 Vinegar

Vinegar is not a favorite cleaner due to its pungent smell, but once dry vinegar leaves no odor behind. On top of cleaning all the same surfaces you can with baking soda, you can also use vinegar misted onto your mattress as a disinfectant, and as a natural fabric softener.

Vinegar mixed with baking soda causes the combination to fizz vigorously, which can be used in a drain to help clear minor blockages.

Plain soap and water

With so many disinfectants, floor cleaners, glass cleaners, and more crowding supermarket aisles, it's tempting to think that we need a different spray for everything. For the most part, this is all marketing. Plain soap and water can be just as effective at getting a room clean as nearly everything else. Choosing to live simply and keep the heavy cleaners just for the times you reallyneed it (poop clean up anyone?) can save the environment and your wallet too.
