Veterinarians take over Capital Hill

More than 170 veterinarians spent the day on Capital hill today to meet lawmakers and discuss legislation affecting veterinary medicine.

Veterinarians focused on two main issues including  the Veterinary Medicine Loan Repayment Program Enhancement Act (S. 1163/H.R. 2746), which would help close veterinary access gaps by placing additional food animal and public health veterinarians in U.S. Department of Agriculture-designated veterinary shortage areas and the Association Health Plans Act of 2019 (S. 1170/H.R. 2294), which would help expand the AVMA-sponsored association health program for members to ensure that more veterinarians are able to access high-quality reliable health insurance.
