Three supplements you should be taking right now

The supplement industry is huge in the United States. Entire stores are dedicated to various supplements. Some are for weight loss and some are for weight gain. Others tout various ways they can help your body. How can you know which ones to take? If you're confused, here are 3 basic supplements no one should be without.

Fish oil:

Omega-3 fatty acids help protect the heart and the circulatory system. They also help when we eat other Omega acids such as -6 and -9. Without the -3 these can do more harm than good. While it is possible and to many doctors desirable that we get the acids from eating the fish itself most people don’t eat salmon or tuna on a daily basis. These supplements provide the necessary acids.

Garlic:

The benefits of garlic, like fish, are greatest when eaten, especially if it is eaten raw. Anyone who has tried to eat raw garlic knows that it is a near impossibility. While adding it to the cooking pot helps it may not be enough. Daily garlic supplements can help keep blood pressure down and may lower cholesterol. It can also help with infections and viruses due to antimicrobial and antibacterial properties.

Calcium:

In order to consume enough calcium without a supplement a lot of food needs to be eaten and milk ingested. For those with lactose intolerance the problem is even worse. While many think of calcium as something women should take men don’t usually get enough, either. Calcium does more than build strong teeth and bones for children. It is key to the prevention of osteopenia and osteoporosis. It is also important for the nervous system, blood clotting and heart rhythm. If the body doesn’t receive enough calcium from outside sources it will pull it from bones and teeth. This is an even more dangerous problem for pregnant women who are growing an entire set of teeth and bones in their womb.
