Want more excitement in your life? Try making a Bucket list

By now, most of us have heard of a bucket list. A list of things you dream of doing or experiencing before you “kick the bucket.” While thinking about our own deaths can seem a little morbid, focusing on what we want to do before our lives come to an end can help us get the most of this precious time we have on Earth.

Thinking about what we want to do before we die is an important way to focus our minds, but if you're going to write one, you need to write it in such a way that you'll want to follow through. A bucket list is useless if it just ends up in the dump after all.

Make it a list of your intentions, not a list for santa

Day dreaming is fun, but your bucket list should be a real list you can work towards and achieve. Unless you are a cancer researcher, finding the cure for cancer isn't going to be achievable. (Especially if you don't have real intentions of doing it.)

That doesn't mean you can't put stuff on the list that seems impossible, such as backpacking around the world or winning a marathon, but they should be things you actually want to do.

Keep it limited to your own personal integrity

Your bucket list isn't about things that you ought to do. It's about your dreams, your beliefs, and your life goals. If the goals you put in are just things you feel like you should experience, rather than something you want to experience, they shouldn't make the list.

Keep your bucket list down to things that you want to do with a burning passion. Things that you will struggle for. Things that you won't give up easily over. If your list is something that you respect and value, you'll be more likely to complete it.

Make each item on the list unambiguous

This might sound a little bit weird, but it's also one of the most essential rules to creating a bucket list. When you write down your life goals in a bucket list format, they need to be ones you can check off with certainty. After all, if you write “Travel all over the world” when can you really say you checked that off? If you are more specific and say something like, “Travel to every continent” or “Travel to Japan, South Africa, and Brazil” you'll know for sure when you can check that off.

Checking off things on your bucket list is one of the most satisfying parts of having one, so making sure there's no doubt in your mind when you finally get to do it makes the whole list more enjoyable.

A bucket list is a great way to add to our lives, and help inspire us to achieve our dreams. Bucket lists aren't just a list of fun things to do when you're bored, they're a blueprint for your life. You are the only one who can truly be in charge of your story, and a bucket list can help ou make it a good one.
