Veteriarian Walks Through a Blizzard to Help Horses in Need

Last week’s Bomb Cyclone, an unprecedented blizzard that hit Colorado, left many roads impassable. But that didn’t stop Dr. Dale Rice, veterinarian and owner of Three Peaks Veterinary mobile veterinary service from finding a way to get to Terolyn Horse Rescue to treat one horse suffering from colic and another with a bad leg wound.

The blizzards had made the roads impassable, so Dr. Rice packed up a horse with his equipment and headed out on foot. The one mile hike in the blizzard took over an hour, but he was able to treat both patients.

Dr. Rice became a veterinarian after leaving a successful career in food animal safety and research, he graduated from Colorado State University in 2009.
